When verifying, usethe exact file you downloaded and its matching row — the installer and the portable build are two different files, so of course their checksums differ.
After downloading, we recommend verifying the SHA-256 first (see "Verify your download" below). On first run you may see "Windows protected your PC" — that's because the installer isn't code-signed; just click "More info → Run anyway". You can also verify the checksum before running.

Installation steps
The installer suits everyday use; the portable version fits on a USB drive, with its settings traveling alongside the app folder.
Installer (recommended)
Download the installer
Click the download button at the top of the page and save CatFrame-Setup-1.6.0.exe locally.
Run the installer
Double-click to run it. If you see "Windows protected your PC", click "More info" → "Run anyway" (reason explained below).
Choose the install location
By default it installs to your user folder, or set a custom path; optionally tick to create a desktop shortcut.
Finish and launch
After installing, launch CatFrame; the first run creates the config and log folders, then you can add download tasks.
Portable (no install)
Download the portable archive
Download the portable (no-install) archive to your PC; the file name looks like CatFrame-1.6.0.exe。
Extract to a writable folder
Extract to any writable folder; we recommend a path without special characters, e.g. D:\CatFrame。
Run it directly
Double-click CatFrame.exe. Settings, task history and cache are all stored under the app folder, so you can copy the whole thing to a USB drive.
How to upgrade
Just replace the files with the new version; your settings and task history in the app folder are kept.
Browser extension (optional)
Once installed, the video / audio / stream addresses you see on web pages appear in the extension panel — tick one and hand it to CatFrame to download, no more copying links by hand. It'snot required: CatFrame can paste a link and download directly on its own.

What it can do
- Sniff page resources: it captures the video, audio,
.m3u8/.mpdstream URLs, archives and documents the page actually requests; - If you can see it, you can download it: it even catches stream URLs the player assembles in scripts; tick them in the panel and send them to the desktop app in one click;
- Full-page parsing: on video-site detail pages (YouTube / Bilibili / X / TikTok / Reddit / Vimeo / Twitch, etc.) you can download the whole page directly, and the desktop app picks the highest quality automatically;
- Context menu: right-click a link or player to send it to CatFrame for download.
How to install (manual loading for now, 2 steps)
The extension is finished and verified on real Edge / Chrome machines, butit isn't listed in any app store yet, so you'll need to load it manually once following the steps below. You only have to do this once.

Download the zip above andextract it to a folder you won't delete(for example
D:\CatFrame-Extension), then open your browser and typeedge://extensions(Edge) orchrome://extensions(Chrome). -
Turn on the "Developer mode" toggle on the page, then click "Load unpacked" and select the folder you just extracted.
That's just two steps, no configuration needed — the extension and the desktop app recognize each other automatically. After installing, launch CatFrame, click the extension icon in the browser toolbar, and when you see "Connected" you're good to go.
On security: the desktop app onlyon your own machinelistens on an internal port and accepts requests only fromthe official extension — the extension's identity is fixed (determined by a built-in public key), so without the matching private key no one can impersonate it, and ordinary web pages can't reach it at all.
Note: an extension loaded in developer mode usually persists across browserrestarts; if your browser says "disabled developer-mode extensions", just flip the toggle back on. Once the extension is in the store, this step becomes a one-click install.
On first run you may see "Windows protected your PC"
This is because CatFrame currentlyhas no code-signing certificate, so Windows SmartScreen blocks new programs with few downloads by default — it doesn't mean the program is broken. Here's what you can do:
- In the dialog, click "More info", then click "Run anyway」；
- Or first check the file's SHA-256 against the value shown on this page above (method below);
- If you'd rather be cautious,build it from source yourself or try it in a sandbox / virtual machine first.
If your environment has enterprise security policies, defer to your administrator's judgment.
Verify your download
Open Command Prompt or PowerShell in the file's folder, run either command below, and compare the result with the matching row's SHA-256 in the table above, character by character.

Tip:certutil 's output contains spaces; just ignore the spaces when comparing, and it's case-insensitive. If the two don't match, don't run it — download it again.
Above we use the recommended package's CatFrame-Setup-1.6.0.exe file name; if you downloaded a different package, just swap in its file name (and use its matching checksum row).
